About Campout
Campout Communications is a senior-led publicity and strategic communications firm founded by Jimmy Camp.
Jimmy began his career in politics and public affairs, working on major campaigns and complex events involving presidents, governors, elected officials, national media and security operations.
He later served as Deputy Director of Communications for the California Department of Fish and Game and Communications Director for the California Conservation Corps. In those roles, he led statewide media relations, crisis communications, executive messaging and public affairs.
After leaving state service, Jimmy founded and managed a communications consulting firm serving government, nonprofit and private-sector clients.
Most recently, he managed national publicity campaigns for award-winning and emerging authors, developing media strategies that secured interviews, reviews, podcasts and feature coverage across newspapers, magazines, literary publications, radio and digital media.
A journalist’s understanding of the media
His writing has appeared in The Guardian, the Orange County Register, the Los Angeles Daily News, the San Diego Union-Tribune and other publications. He has appeared on MSNBC, NPR, CBS and additional broadcast outlets.
That experience provides a practical understanding of what makes a story compelling, how journalists make decisions and why most mass-distributed pitches are deleted before the second sentence.
